Crash, bang, bang. No sooner had the man finished speaking than more men came down from upstairs—Yi-an wondered where on earth they had been hiding. The noise and vibration were so intense that he could tell without even looking up. If caught like this, he would die, Yi-an’s instinct was telling him.
“Heuk, heuk.”
Goosebumps ran down his body in an instant. The sense of crisis—that he could end up dead if he didn’t run now—made him exert superhuman strength. Yi-an’s two legs, unnoticed even as he caught his breath, flailed wildly as he raced forward.
Bang, bang. Running down with all his might, he found himself on the first floor before he knew it. It was the space he had entered through by choosing one of the many side doors. If he could just get out of here, he would be able to go down the hill and catch the car waiting for him. Please, where was he supposed to go again…
“Why don’t you come here?”
The voice from behind grew even more vivid. It was the sound that a group of men, led by the one he had encountered first earlier, was closing in. Unable to bring himself to look back, Yi-an gritted his teeth and ran. He sprinted like a madman toward the incinerator that was the first thing to catch his eye.
“Hah, h-h-h…….”
If he turned right at the incinerator, he will find a small door at the end of a dead wall. If he pushed open that door, he will see stairs, and he can exit onto the mountain path via them. Fortunately, there were several doors nearby, so if he kept just a little more distance, they wouldn’t be able to easily find where he had gone.
Perhaps due to the difference in physique, Yi-an was significantly faster than the men. As he managed to create some distance and stepped out through the side door he had entered through, a faint figure came into view below the hill. It appeared that Ahn Seong-ho had already gotten out of the car and was waiting. It was a relief.
“I’m here! Hurry, hurry! Get ready to leave!”
Fearing he might be caught before leaving, Yi-an shouted urgently and ran toward him. With trembling legs, he hurriedly ran down the hill. Thick dust swirled around the pitch-black surroundings.
“…….”
However, something was off. The silhouette of the man who should have gotten into the driver’s seat immediately at Yi-an’s signal was standing there motionless.
Instead, the man lit his cigarette with a relaxed gesture, as if ignoring Yi-an’s urgent words. The bright red ember stained the space between his long fingers with a flickering light. As he took a deep drag from the cigarette in his mouth, a golden shadow seeped into his lowered eyelashes.
He had never seen facial features that stood out so clearly even in that pressing moment.
The man in front of him was not Ahn Seong-ho.
